Vehicle Description

New Isuzu D Max for sale

The 2023 Isuzu D-Max truck is a dependable workhorse with a wide range of options and competitive pricing. The model boasts a significantly upgraded interior and driving dynamics, thereby making it one of the greatest pickup trucks you can buy. The “double-fang” grille, which is coloured differently depending on the trim level you select and gives the 2017 Isuzu D-Max an aggressive appearance from the front.

The entry-level option is the Utility model, which comes in single cab, extended cab, and double cab body types. The DL40 and V-Cross models only come in double-cab configurations, whereas the DL20 is available in extended and double cab variations. The second-generation D-Max represents a major improvement in terms of usability when compared to the previous models. Every variant can easily carry more than 1.0 tonne (1,000 kg) in cargo and yet tow 3.5-tonnes (3,500 kg).

The ladder frame chassis is an improved version of the previous one, and the 164hp 1.9-litre turbodiesel is carried over from the previous D-Max. Nonetheless, the chassis has been strengthened and made more rigid, and the electronic power steering, new suspension, and significantly improved bushings between the bodywork wonders for the driving experience.

Both the interior and the bodywork are entirely new. The new D-Max is 30 millimetres shorter than the previous model, but it also boasts a bigger load area, a bigger passenger compartment, a 30-millimetre higher “belt line,” and a 30-millimetre longer wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear axles). There are new trim options as well, but Isuzu still separates the D-Max line into groups for business, all-purpose use, and adventure.

Isuzu D Max Variants

While there is only one D-Max engine option offered by Isuzu, there are many more options for customers to pick from. Each of the four basic trim levels, which are divided between the Business, All-Purpose, and Adventure categories, is quite nicely furnished. Three different body styles are also available: the Single Cab, which has two doors and two seats, the Extended Cab, which has occasional rear seats and half-size rear doors, and the Double Cab, which has four full doors and five seats.

The entry level is the Business range, which is built around the Utility trim level. The Utility standard, which is available in all three body variants, is designed for persons who only require a truck for work. It has easy-clean vinyl flooring. Moreover, it is the only trim name that was retained from the previous model.

The D-Max DL20 and DL40 are part of the All-Purpose line. These two cars can be distinguished from one another by their external trim details, with the DL40 having a chrome finish on the grille, door mirrors, and door handles, as well as a significant increase in standard features. The “DL” in the name stands for the standard-fit rear differential lock. This mechanical device can be activated with a button that causes both rear wheels to turn at the same time. This is helpful in slick off-road conditions particularly when one of the rear wheels is elevated. The V-Cross, which caters to lifestyle shoppers, has all the gadgets in addition to gunmetal exterior accents.

Load space and practicality

The “double-fang” grille, which is coloured differently depending on the trim level you select and gives the 2017 Isuzu D-Max an aggressive appearance from the front, is one of the first things you notice when looking at it. The entry-level option is the Utility model, which comes in single cab, extended cab, and double cab body types. The DL40 and V-Cross models only come in double-cab configurations, whereas the DL20 is available in extended and double cab variations.

The load bay of the single cab variant is 2,315 mm in length, and its maximum payload is 1,205 kg. The extended cab comes next with a 1,805mm load bay and a 1,140kg payload capacity, while the double cab is the last with 1,495mm and 1,115kg of capacity. Except for the rear-wheel drive type, all versions have a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 kg. It’s a useful workhorse that is comparable to our preferred vehicle on the market, the Ford Ranger, in this regard. There are many options for attachments, including different designs of hardtop backs and load coverings. Moreover, there are frames, cargo rails, tow bars, roof bars, and bars to keep loads in the bed in place.

Safety and reliability

The D-Max has a great reputation for safety. According to the most recent (and strictest) assessment method, it is the only vehicle currently for sale that has received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. There is also a tonne of safety equipment, such as cameras in the windscreen for automatic emergency braking and front collision warning, as well as traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning.

Moreover, adaptive cruise control and lane assist are available on automatic versions, though we found these features to be too sensitive and potentially uncomfortable to operate. The D-Max has a great reputation for complete dependability. All variants are covered by a five-year/125,000-mile warranty from the manufacturer, demonstrating how confident they are in the D-Max. Although this reduces visibility while driving, locking load bay coverings and hard tops are available with tinted glass or even full metal panels for security.

Driving and performance

The D-Max has just one engine, a 162 horsepower 1.9-litre diesel, but you can choose between a manual or automatic transmission. We would go for the latter because using the handbook isn’t very enjoyable.

It also has a very small first gear, which can be frustrating most of the time but is useful when towing anything heavy. If you’re not carrying anything, you might as well regard second gear as first. The automatic is better, but it’s not perfect. It may drive a little sluggish at intersections and isn’t as responsive as a Ford Ranger’s 10-speed auto.

Despite being powerful, the engine is extremely noisy. You have to push it harder than usual because it delivers its power earlier in the rpm range than some other diesel, which makes the rattly sound and vibrations more noticeable.

Since the gearbox features an “on-the-fly” 4WD option, you can use four-wheel drive for off-roading without stopping. Apart from the front diff lock, the rear diff lock only activates in low-range mode at speeds under 5 mph. The D-Max has excellent grip, a lot of ground clearance, and outstanding visibility, making it a terrific off-road vehicle.

For use as a mixed-use vehicle on the road, the higher-spec variants are the best. Although the higher-spec vehicles in the range provide more driving comfort without sacrificing off-road capability, the more basic ones are noisier and bouncer.

Should you invest in Isuzu D Max?

The best-spec V-Cross has a nine-inch touchscreen, keyless entry, and keyless ignition, making it far more luxurious than the base vehicles. There were some fascinating off-road specialities produced by the previous generation as well, so hopefully, there will be more this time. But the regular automobiles are fantastic in the difficult terrain and make everything look way too simple. Although the range does become quite pricy, the new cabin is fantastic when coupled with a higher spec.

The Utility versions, which have rather simple interiors, are the first in the D-Max line. Although the cabin is sparse and the seats are made of cotton, Bluetooth and DAB radio are nonetheless included. The safety equipment is good, and manual air conditioning is also included. For heated seats and a leather steering wheel, choose a higher-spec DL20 model. For motorised leather seats and a seven-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, choose the DL40. Keyless entry and dual-zone climate control are other features of these variants.

Choose a higher-spec DL20 model if you want heated seats and a leather steering wheel. The DL40 offers motorised leather seats and a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Some variations also have dual-zone climate control and keyless entry.
